Canada’s national parks belong to all Canadians. Parks Canada manages and protects one of the finest and most extensive systems of protected natural and cultural heritage areas in the world.
As part of its regular business, Parks Canada will be engaging a third party to collect information and data on local real estate markets across the country.
Parks Canada will be contracting out this information gathering and data analysis. No changes are being made to Parks Canada realty framework at this time.
Parks Canada is committed to working with commercial operators and those residents and cottage owners who form part of the community of partners at Parks Canada places. Consultations with stakeholders would occur should Parks Canada decide to make any changes to policies or regulations related to realty in the future.

Where, why and to whom does Parks Canada lease land?
Parks Canada administers approximately 5700 commercial, residential and cottage leases and licences. Commercial leases are granted for the provision of goods and services to visitors.
The majority of these leases and licences are for lands within seven communities inside national parks (Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Field, Waterton, Waskesiu and Wasagaming) and along the Ontario Waterways (Rideau Canal and Trent-Severn Waterway).
What is this project about?
Parks Canada is seeking a small team of experienced professionals to do research and provide real estate market data. The information to be provided includes real estate conditions, lessons learned from other institutions as well as financial modelling.

This RFP will provide research and market data to Parks Canada. The information and data analysis received via this contract will ensure that Parks Canada understands the local market realities.
Who will be affected by this market analysis?
No one will be affected by this analysis. The analysis will look at commercial, residential, and cottage leasing and licensing at all of Parks Canada’s protected places including national parks, national historic sites, and waterways (canals).
Should Parks Canada move forward with changes, consultations with stakeholders will occur to ensure a full range of views are considered.
How will existing leases and licences be affected?
Existing leases and licences will not be affected. Should Parks Canada move forward with changes, consultations with stakeholders will occur to ensure a full range of views are considered.
Will rental rates be affected, if so when?
Decisions regarding any changes will not occur at this time. The objective of this work is to obtain information and analyze data to inform future decisions. Stakeholder engagement will take place prior to the development and implementation of any changes should they occur.
Will the duration of leases be affected?
For lands within National Parks, maximum lease durations are regulated. Decisions regarding any potential changes to regulations, including maximum lease durations, will not occur at this time.
