There are no designated campsites in the park. You may camp anywhere you like, except at archaeological sites. Whether hiking or paddling, there are an endless number of beautiful locations to choose from.

Parks Canada has, where possible, identified scenic and appropriate camping sites on the Hornaday River. Contact the Park Office for a copy of the Hornaday River Guide .

In order to protect this pristine wilderness, please practice No Trace Camping. All garbage must be packed out with you. Consult with the Park Office for additional advice on low-impact camping techniques.

Campfires

Campfires are not allowed in Tuktut Nogait National Park. Use a camp stove and bottled fuel for cooking. Scheduled aircraft do not allow passengers to carry fuel. Most types of camping fuel may be purchased in Inuvik and some are available in Paulatuk. If you require specialty fuels you should check in advance with local suppliers.

Managing Human waste

Bacterial action is much slower in the arctic and human waste can take a long time to decompose. This is especially true where permafrost is just below the surface. Human waste is best disposed of by leaving it exposed on the ground, preferably on a south-facing slope and at least 50 m. above the high water mark of any water body. Smearing the faeces will accelerate decomposition. Toilet paper should be burned (if safe to do so) or packed out.
