Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal National Historic Site

The Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal is located on the southwestern tip of the Island of Montreal. Originally used for trading purposes, the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal was part of the Montreal-Ottawa-Kingston inland waterway.

Environment

The climate of this region is characterized by high precipitation, due to the high humidity from the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers.

Discover unique features

Animals

Because of the many visitors, this area is not ideal for observing mammals or reptiles . However, many urban birds can be seen. The rapids facing the canal contain major fish spawning sites.

Plants

The tree and shrub flora on this site consists almost exclusively of individual examples of planted ornamental species. As a result, no plant or tree community is found here.
